LEARN TO SAIL COURSES

Sydney By Sail is a Yachting Australia training centre. We are accredited to teach courses
that comprise the National Yacht Cruising and Racing Schemes.

Have you taken one of our three hour sailing trips and would like to learn to sail. Our courses begin with the Introductory Level which covers the basics of sailing. Next is the Competent Crew course which builds your skills or the Competent Crew Package which is a value for money way of obtaining your certificate. After that is the Skipper Course level whereby you take control of your own yacht within an area such as Sydney Harbour. Or consider the Skipper package which takes you from the beginning to a seasoned skipper. If you are reasonably competent and are looking to charter your own yacht in say the Whitsunday Island's or in Europe or the Carribean (subject to full certification), then our Bareboat Charter Course will teach you the bare essentials for a fun and safe holiday.

Our Beginner & Competent Crew courses are conducted aboard our Hunter 33 Yachts, perfect for up to 4 students and the Instructor. For our Bareboat charter course we also use our new Hunter 33 feet yachts. Our yachts are also available for bareboat or skippered charter. Our skipper and offshore courses are conducted on our Hunter 38 which comfortably cater for six students and up to two instructors for our sailing passages and offshore training.

Sail training courses run all year round on weekends and midweek. Each Beginner and Competent Crew student is provided with a welcome pack, comprising a Cruising Yacht Handbook and National Yacht Cruising Scheme Logbook contained in a water proof pouch. Certificates are issued by Yachting Australia after the completion of the full course requirements. You can also keep up to date with yachting Australia's website with news, developments and opportunities within the sport. Two complementary three hour social races, conducted on the third Saturday of each month are also included. All students are entitled to discounts on further sailing courses, charters and packages.

Many of our sail training graduates have taken up sailing with a passion. Chris Argent started with Sydney By Sail in 1998 and after having progressed through the sailing school can be seen regularly chartering a luxury Sydney By Sail yacht showcasing our Harbour to clients or just mucking about with his buddies.

Warwick and Kate Hamilton, like Chris passed through the school in the late 1990's. We began working with Warwick's Events Company soon after and have been ever since. They decided to take the plunge into yacht ownership and purchased a new Hunter 33 and placed it in the Sydney By Sail charter fleet. From students to yacht owners!!

When Alison and Alan Day finished their Inshore Skipper course they bought a beautiful Moody 40ft yacht and are now sailing the world.

Fred Etter is now a highly sought after ocean racing crew since he graduated from Sydney By Sail. Fred also continues to charter with Sydney By Sail.
