BAREBOAT CHARTER COURSE

The bareboat charter course is designed to prepare you for skippering a yacht in smooth and partially smooth waters. The course is split into three parts focusing on sailing technique, general operating procedures and passage planning.

Topics include; reefing, anchoring, basic engineering, system checks, trouble shooting, radio operation and navigating.

This is an ideal course for those planning on chartering in some exotic destination such as the Greek Iles, South Pacific, Whitsunday Islands or the Caribbean.Sydney By Sail can also assist with booking a yacht in one of these exotic destinations and help secure a great deal.


COURSE OUTLINE

Day 1 ~ Lesson 1: Morning Session


Operating procedures
Safety inspection and equipment
Location and layout
Seacock's and thru-hull fittings electrical systems - switches and breakers
Bilge systems - pumps and filters
Instruments - log and transducer, basic engineering - engine parts & spares
Trouble shooting
Water leaks
Electrical failure - pumps, lights, windlass
Engine failure - over heating, fuel shortage, toilet blockage
Stove in-operable
Radio operation
Emergency procedures

Day 1 ~ Lesson 2: Afternoon Session

Sailing technique
Tips on sail configuration
Reefing
Sailing in heavy seas

Helming techniques & short handed sailing
